The "I Kid You Not" Fund, the race for a kidney for Brandon Smith.
Thank you for stopping to visit our website. Yes, we are here to ask for help at this dark time in our lives but we also hope to carry the kindness forward into the future for other kidney victims and their families trying to face the hardship as well.
We are the Smith family and have come together at this most challenging time. When a medical crisis strikes, emotions run wild. But we know as long as we are still breathing, there is hope!
This time of challenge has come for my son, Brandon, but with love, determination, spiritual power, new horizons in science and health we know he will get back to full health and happiness.
Like so many others, Brandon is faced with kidney failure resulting from a chronic kidney disease. Make sure to visit the BLOG for Brandon’s Story and Updates.
The research is in itself mind boggling on a good day much less with so many decisions to make regarding the best medical care money can buy. And unfortunately that is the problem!
Most would rather crawl in a hole than to ask for help (Brandon is probably there now), but without help his future is dismal. It is truly a humbling experience but some of the most heartfelt moments and precious connections can result. Sometimes the darkest clouds have the most spectacular “silver linings”.
Brandon’s choices are to continue dialysis (hopefully, without complications), until a donor kidney is found then a transplant and never ending drugs. Another choice is in the new medical frontier of stem cell therapy with stem cell nutrition. Decisions can only be made if there is sufficient financial backing. The sky-rocketing medical and personal costs alone force many into quick bankruptcy. Brandon’s self-acquired construction business will no longer be a choice due to all of these life changing medical issues.
Dialysis alone is roughly $10,000 per month! Personally I think it is out of control. Greed that is! And even with a donor kidney the hospital wants several thousand dollars upfront to guarantee the purchase and use of medications!
